Description
NutraBio Base Pre-Workout
Every core ingredient at its clinical dose — 6g pure L-citrulline, 3.2g beta-alanine, 2.5g betaine — at a moderate 200mg of caffeine. 30 servings, zero calories, fully disclosed label.
This is the best-value pre-workout we stock, and the reason is that NutraBio spent the money on actives rather than on a long ingredient list.
The doses are the whole story
| L-Citrulline | 6,000mg | Pure, not malate. Squarely in the researched 6–8g range |
| Beta-Alanine | 3,200mg | The exact clinical dose |
| Betaine Anhydrous | 2,500mg | The exact clinical dose |
| L-Tyrosine | 1,500mg | A substantial cognitive dose |
| Taurine | 1,000mg | Cell volumisation and hydration |
| Caffeine | 200mg | Roughly two cups of coffee |
| Electrolytes | Included | Fluid balance and contraction |
Nothing here is a label mention. Every one of those is at or above what the research used — which sounds unremarkable until you compare it against most pre-workouts at this price, where the citrulline is 3g of malate and the betaine is absent entirely.
Pure citrulline at this price is the standout
Budget pre-workouts almost universally use citrulline malate, because it is cheaper. And that matters more than it looks:
Citrulline malate is citrulline bonded to malic acid at roughly 2:1, so about a third of the weight is not citrulline. 6g of citrulline malate delivers around 4g of actual citrulline — below the researched range.
Base uses 6g of pure L-citrulline, which delivers 6g. To match that with malate you would need 9g on the label.
That single decision is why this out-performs its price bracket, and it is exactly the kind of thing you only notice by reading panels rather than front labels. Full explanation on our L-Citrulline page.
200mg of caffeine is deliberate, not a compromise
The industry has spent a decade escalating caffeine, so 200mg now reads as modest. It should not.
200mg is a genuine working dose — about two cups of coffee, and the same as most energy drinks. It is enough to produce a real performance effect.
What it also does is make this usable every day. Caffeine tolerance builds with regular exposure: if your daily pre-workout is 400mg, within a few months you need more than 400mg to feel anything, and there is very little above that which is sensible. Running 200mg keeps a stronger product effective for the days that warrant one.
And it leaves room in your day — 200mg is half the 400mg figure the FDA cites for healthy adults, so a morning coffee is not a problem.
Zero calories, so it will not break a fast
Worth stating plainly because it is a common question: Base contains no calories at all, which makes it suitable for fasted training and intermittent fasting protocols.
That is not true of every pre-workout — some carry carbohydrate, and flavoured products with sugar alcohols are not always calorie-free.
Base or NutraBio PRE?
NutraBio make both, and they are aimed at different jobs.
| Base Pre-Workout | NutraBio PRE | |
| Caffeine | 200mg | 350mg |
| Servings | 30 | 20 |
| Formula | Eight core ingredients | Larger, more comprehensive |
| Built for | Every session, and beginners | Sessions that warrant it |
Our honest recommendation: if you train four or more times a week, Base is the sensible tub to live in. Save the stronger product for heavy days — that way it still works when you reach for it.
Where it sits in our range
| Ignition Switch | 150mg / 300mg | Most adjustable, 40 servings |
| NutraBio Base | 200mg | Best value. Every dose clinical |
| Bucked Up | 200mg | Simple daily driver |
| MVPre 365 | 250mg | 10g citrulline, big nootropic stack |
Base and Ignition Switch are the two we would start a beginner on, and the two we would recommend to anyone who wants one pre-workout they can take every session without escalating.
How to take it
- One scoop in 8 to 12oz of water, 20 to 30 minutes before training.
- Start with half a scoop if you are new to pre-workouts.
- Not within five to six hours of bedtime.
- No more than one serving every three to four hours.
- Take it consistently if the beta-alanine matters — carnosine builds over two to four weeks.
- Take creatine separately — there is none in this formula. Our NutraBio Creatine stacks cleanly.
Who this is for
- Anyone buying their first pre-workout — 200mg with no exotic stimulants is the right starting point
- People training four or more times a week who want one tub for every session
- Anyone whose caffeine tolerance has crept up and wants to reset it
- People training fasted — zero calories
- Anyone who wants clinical doses without paying for a twenty-ingredient label
- Value buyers. This is roughly a pound a workout
Who this is not for
If you want a high-stimulant experience, 200mg is deliberately moderate. DEFY or MVPre 3.0 go considerably higher.
If you want a large nootropic stack, MVPre 365 carries far more.
If you dislike the beta-alanine tingle, 3.2g is a full dose and you will feel it. That sensation is paraesthesia — harmless, and not a sign the product is working.
If you want creatine included, this has none. Buy it separately and take it daily.
Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing.
Stack it with: creatine, and Base Aminos if you want intra-workout amino support.
Frequently asked questions
How much caffeine is in Base?
200mg — around two cups of coffee, and half the 400mg daily figure cited for healthy adults.
Is the citrulline pure or malate?
Pure L-citrulline at 6,000mg. That is unusual at this price — most budget pre-workouts use malate, where 6g delivers only about 4g of actual citrulline.
Is 200mg enough?
Yes, and keeping it moderate preserves your tolerance so a stronger product still works when you want one.
Will it break a fast?
No. Base contains zero calories, so it suits fasted training and intermittent fasting.
Is it good for beginners?
It is one of the best starting points we stock. Start with half a scoop to assess tolerance.
How is it different from NutraBio PRE?
PRE runs 350mg of caffeine with a larger formula and 20 servings. Base runs 200mg with 30 servings and is built for everyday use.
Why does it make me tingle?
3.2g of beta-alanine. Harmless paraesthesia that fades in about half an hour and reduces with regular use.
Does it contain creatine?
No. Take creatine separately and daily, including rest days.
Coalition never fails to deliver quality products. The flavor and price of this pre is just as good as any big name brand. Double scoop it up if you want to see noises.
Great pre for a day when you don’t want a lot of caffeine. For the days you do, just double scoop.
