Why EAAs rather than BCAAs, which is the whole point
This is the most important thing to understand about amino acid supplements, and the industry spent fifteen years getting it wrong.
There are nine essential amino acids — the ones your body cannot make and must obtain from food. Three of them are the BCAAs: leucine, isoleucine and valine.
Building muscle protein requires all nine. Every single one. Missing any of them stops the process, in the same way a construction site stops when one material runs out regardless of how much of everything else is on hand.
A BCAA product supplies three of nine. Leucine will trigger the signal to start building — but if the other six are not available, the signal has nothing to work with. This is why the evidence for BCAAs alone turned out to be far weaker than a decade of marketing suggested, and why the category has largely moved to EAAs.

One honest note on the label
A few of the secondary amino acids sit at modest doses — tryptophan at 55mg, for instance, is well below anything you would expect an effect from in isolation.
That is not really a criticism, because their purpose is completeness rather than individual effect. The point of a full EAA profile is that all nine are present so protein synthesis is not limited by a missing one. But if you are reading the panel and wondering why some numbers are small, that is why.
How to use it
- Sip it through your session. That is the intra-workout use, and the electrolytes are as much of the reason as the aminos.
- Plenty of water. It is designed to be a drink you work through, not a shot. More water makes it last the session.
- It foams. Amino acid powders do — the aminos act as surfactants. Let it settle for a minute after shaking, or stir rather than shake.
- Also works on rest days, particularly if you are in a deficit or fasting, since the EAAs and glutamine are useful whenever protein intake is low.
- Not a replacement for protein. Aminos supplement your intake, they do not substitute for food.
