Why blending whey and casein is a real decision
People often assume a blend means concentrate padding out isolate. A whey-casein blend is a different thing entirely, and the reasoning is sound.

Casein coagulates in stomach acid and forms a gel — the same property that makes cheese possible. That gel has to be broken down before the amino acids inside can be absorbed, which is what slows it.
Blending the two gives you both curves at once: the immediate leucine spike from whey that triggers muscle protein synthesis, plus a sustained release that keeps amino acids elevated for hours afterwards.
Which makes a blend genuinely versatile — it works around training, between meals, or before bed, where a pure whey would clear too quickly and a pure casein would be too slow around a session.
Why the flavour reputation matters more than it sounds
This is not a trivial point.
The best protein powder is the one you actually drink. A great many tubs are bought, used a few times, and abandoned because the person does not enjoy them — and protein supplementation only works through consistency.

Protein content is commonly measured by nitrogen content — and cheap free-form amino acids such as glycine, taurine and glutamine contain nitrogen too. Adding them inflates the measured protein figure without supplying complete usable protein. A nitrogen test cannot tell the difference.
A fully disclosed ingredient list defeats it. If the protein sources listed are whey and casein, and no free-form aminos appear, there is nowhere for spiking to hide.
And run the arithmetic: divide the protein by the scoop weight. Around 80% and above is isolate-grade; a whey-casein blend with a flavour system will sit somewhat lower, which is expected rather than a fault.
