Description
NutraBio Creatine + HMB
5 grams of PharmaPure creatine monohydrate and 3 grams of HMB in one unflavoured scoop, with 50mg of AstraGin for absorption. 30 servings.
Two ingredients doing opposite jobs — one helps you build, the other helps you not lose. That combination suits a specific situation, and we will be clear about what it is.
What HMB actually is
HMB is beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate, a metabolite of leucine. When your body breaks down leucine — the amino acid that triggers muscle protein synthesis — a small fraction, around 5%, converts to HMB.
HMB works differently from leucine itself. Where leucine primarily signals muscle building, HMB's main documented action is on the other side of the equation: reducing muscle protein breakdown. It appears to stabilise muscle cell membranes and slow the degradation pathways that break tissue down.
Muscle mass is the balance between synthesis and breakdown. Creatine helps you train hard enough to drive synthesis up. HMB works on pulling breakdown down. That is the logic of the combination and it is coherent.
Because only about 5% of leucine converts to HMB, reaching a 3 gram dose from food would require an implausible amount of leucine — which is why it is supplemented rather than eaten.
The honest read on HMB's evidence
This is where we want to be straight with you, because HMB is one of the more contested ingredients in sports nutrition.
Where the evidence is strongest: HMB shows its clearest effects in people experiencing elevated muscle breakdown. That means untrained people starting a programme, people training in a caloric deficit, older adults, and anyone under unusually high training stress. In those situations there is more breakdown to reduce, so reducing it matters more.
Where it is weaker: in well-trained individuals eating adequately, results are considerably more mixed. Some of the most striking early findings have not replicated well, and the effect sizes in trained populations are modest at best.
What that means practically: if you are dieting, returning after a layoff, training through a hard block, or older, HMB has a genuine case. If you are an experienced lifter eating in a surplus, plain creatine will do nearly all of the work for considerably less money.
We would rather tell you that than sell you the more expensive tub by default.
Creatine is the settled half
The creatine here is PharmaPure at a full 5 gram dose — the same pharmaceutical-grade, HPLC-tested creatine used in NutraBio's standalone creatine.
Creatine is the most researched supplement in existence and its effects are not in dispute. Your muscles store only enough ATP for a few seconds of maximal effort, and phosphocreatine donates a phosphate to regenerate it. More stored phosphocreatine means more regeneration during a hard set.

3 grams is the researched HMB dose, which is worth checking against competitors — several creatine-HMB products use 1.5g, half the amount used in the studies they cite.
How to take it
- One scoop into 8 to 16 ounces of water, protein or pre-workout. Unflavoured, so it disappears into anything.
- Drink it within about 15 minutes of mixing. Creatine slowly converts to creatinine in solution, which does nothing.
- Every day, training or not. Both ingredients work through accumulation rather than acutely.
- Timing does not matter. Consistency does.
- No loading required.
- Do not stack it with separate creatine. 5g is a full dose.
Who this is for
- Anyone dieting in a caloric deficit — the clearest use case, since preserving muscle while losing fat is exactly what HMB targets
- People returning to training after a layoff, where breakdown is elevated
- Older lifters, where HMB's evidence is comparatively stronger
- Anyone training through a genuinely demanding block
- People who want both ingredients in one scoop rather than two products
Who this is not for
If you are an experienced lifter eating in a surplus, buy plain creatine. Nutristat Creapure or NutraBio's standalone creatine deliver the same 5g of creatine for meaningfully less, and HMB's added value in that specific population is where the evidence is weakest. That is the honest recommendation and it costs us a sale.
If you already take creatine, do not run both.
If you want the cheapest effective supplement in existence, that is plain creatine powder. This is creatine plus something extra, priced accordingly.
Stack it with: adequate protein, which does more than either ingredient. See the full creatine range.
Frequently asked questions
What is HMB?
Beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate, a metabolite of the amino acid leucine. Around 5% of leucine converts to HMB in the body, which is why a 3g dose has to be supplemented rather than eaten.
What does HMB do that creatine does not?
Creatine helps you train harder, driving muscle protein synthesis up. HMB's main documented action is reducing muscle protein breakdown. They work on opposite sides of the same equation.
Does HMB actually work?
The evidence is strongest in people with elevated muscle breakdown — dieting, untrained, returning from a layoff, or older. In well-trained people eating adequately, results are considerably more mixed and effect sizes modest.
How much HMB should a product contain?
3 grams is the researched dose. Several competing products use 1.5g, half the amount in the studies they reference.
Should I buy this or plain creatine?
Plain creatine if you are an experienced lifter eating in a surplus — that is where HMB adds least. This one if you are dieting, older, returning after time off, or training through a hard block.
Can I take it with other creatine?
No. 5g is already a full daily dose.
Do I need to load?
No. Daily use reaches full creatine saturation in three to four weeks.
What is AstraGin?
A patented absorption enhancer included at 50mg to improve uptake of the other ingredients.
