Description
Rule One preLIFT
25 active ingredients including 6g of pure L-citrulline, 3.2g CarnoSyn beta-alanine, and 330mg of caffeine from three different delivery systems. Fully disclosed and Informed Choice certified.
The caffeine label is unusually honest — and you can check it yourself
This is the best-documented caffeine system on our shelf, because Rule One disclose the individual ingredient weights rather than just a total.
| Caffeine Anhydrous | 235mg | Fast onset, peaks in 30–45 minutes |
| Infinergy di-caffeine malate | 100mg | Salt form — gradual release, gentler on the stomach |
| zumXR delayed-release | 30mg | Holds back, then releases later |
Add those up and you get 365mg of caffeine ingredients. Rule One state 330mg of caffeine.
That difference is the point. Di-caffeine malate is roughly 75% caffeine by weight, so 100mg of it delivers about 75mg of actual caffeine. Rule One are quoting the yielded figure rather than the ingredient weight — which is the honest way to do it, and something plenty of brands avoid.
Because they disclose both, you can verify the arithmetic yourself. That is unusual and worth crediting.
Three delivery approaches, and they genuinely differ
preLIFT is the only product on our shelf using all three caffeine engineering approaches at once:
- Anhydrous — the standard, straight into circulation
- Di-caffeine malate — caffeine bonded to malic acid as a salt, which changes how it is processed and slows the release
- zumXR delayed-release — this is the distinct one. It does not release slowly from the start; it holds back and then releases later, producing a second pulse as the first wave declines
Extended release and delayed release are not the same thing, and that distinction is what separates a flatter curve from a genuine second wind. The intended profile here is a fast start, a steady middle, and a later pulse.
One practical consequence: the delayed-release portion extends the effect further into your evening than 330mg of plain caffeine would. Worth planning around if you train late.
The two doses that matter are clinical
- L-Citrulline, 6,000mg — pure, not malate. Squarely in the 6 to 8g researched range. A product listing 6g of citrulline malate would deliver only around 4g of actual citrulline
- CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine, 3,200mg — the exact researched dose, in the patented CarnoSyn form. Expect tingling: that is paraesthesia, harmless, fading within about half an hour, and not a sign the product is working. Carnosine builds quietly over two to four weeks
Honest note: 25 ingredients means breadth, not depth
preLIFT markets itself on having 25 actives including six patented compounds. That is true, and it is worth understanding what it means in practice.
Two ingredients are at full clinical doses — the citrulline and beta-alanine above. Most of the rest are present at modest amounts:
- Alpha-GPC, 200mg — a working dose, though our HWMF page runs 600mg
- Lion's Mane, 75mg and Cordyceps, 75mg — both well below the doses used in mushroom research, which typically run into grams
- Senactiv, 25mg — half the 50mg used in Bucked Up
- S7, 50mg — this one is at the studied dose
- Huperzine A, 50mcg — a deliberately conservative amount, which is arguably right for something taken regularly
This is not a criticism, it is a trade-off. A scoop has finite room, and Rule One spent it on the two ingredients with the strongest evidence, then added a broad supporting cast. If you would rather have three or four ingredients at maximum doses, MVPre 365 concentrates more heavily.
The 50mcg huperzine deserves specific credit. Several products run 100 to 200mcg, and huperzine has a long half-life — a lower dose is more sensible in something you might take daily.
Informed Choice certification
preLIFT is banned-substance tested by Informed Choice and made in Rule One's own GMP-certified facilities.
That is rare on a 330mg pre-workout. Most products at this stimulant level carry no certification at all, and several contain compounds that would fail a test outright. If you compete in a tested federation and want a strong pre-workout, the list of options is short — and this is on it.
Specs (per scoop)
| L-Citrulline | 6g (pure) |
| CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine | 3.2g |
| Taurine | 1g |
| Electrolyte blend | 500mg (Himalayan salt, potassium chloride, magnesium oxide) |
| Total caffeine | 330mg yielded, from three sources |
| Alpha-GPC | 200mg |
| Lion's Mane / Cordyceps | 75mg each |
| S7 | 50mg |
| Juniper Berry Extract | 50mg |
| Senactiv | 25mg |
| Cocoa Extract (10% theobromine) | 25mg |
| Huperzine A | 50mcg |
| Certification | Informed Choice |
| Servings | 30 |
| Exotic stimulants | None |
No yohimbine, no synephrine, no eria jarensis, no DMHA. At 330mg that is unusual — most products in this range reach for additional stimulants, and those are what create tested-athlete problems and unpredictable reactions.
Senactiv (panax notoginseng and rosa roxburghii) is researched in relation to clearing senescent cells and glycogen resynthesis — a genuinely different angle, though at 25mg it is a light touch.
Where it sits in our range
| Fresh Pre | 360mg | Caffeine only, no exotic stimulants |
| preLIFT | 330mg | Informed Choice certified. Three caffeine forms |
| MVPre 3.0 | 350mg | 10g citrulline |
| CBUM Thavage | 305mg | Scoop flexible daily driver |
preLIFT and Fresh Pre are the two we would point tested athletes toward — both are strong without exotic stimulants, and preLIFT adds the certification.
How to take it
- Start with half a scoop in 8 to 12oz of cold water — Rule One recommend this for first-time use.
- One scoop, 20 to 30 minutes before training. Never more in 24 hours.
- Count your other caffeine. 330mg is over 80% of the 400mg daily figure — roughly three cups of strong coffee.
- Morning or early afternoon. The delayed-release portion extends the tail beyond plain caffeine.
- Take it consistently if the beta-alanine matters.
- Take creatine separately.
Who this is for
- Tested athletes who want a genuinely strong pre-workout — Informed Choice at 330mg is uncommon
- Anyone who wants clinical citrulline and beta-alanine without exotic stimulants
- People who want energy that lasts rather than spikes — three delivery systems address that directly
- Anyone who wants to verify a label's arithmetic themselves
- People who take a pre-workout regularly and want conservative nootropic dosing
Who this is not for
Beginners at a full scoop — start with half.
Anyone caffeine sensitive, training in the evening, or with a cardiovascular condition.
If you want maximum doses of a few ingredients rather than modest doses of many, MVPre 365 concentrates more heavily on citrulline and nootropics.
If you dislike the beta-alanine tingle, 3.2g is a full dose. HWMF contains none.
Not for anyone under 18, pregnant or nursing.
Stack it with: creatine, or a stim-free pump product if you want more pump.
Frequently asked questions
How much caffeine is in preLIFT?
330mg of actual caffeine, from 235mg anhydrous, 100mg di-caffeine malate and 30mg delayed-release zumXR. Because di-caffeine malate is roughly 75% caffeine, the ingredient weights total more than the yielded figure — Rule One quote the yielded one.
What is the difference between the three caffeine forms?
Anhydrous is standard and fast. Di-caffeine malate is a salt form that releases more gradually. zumXR is delayed-release — it holds back and then releases later, producing a second pulse rather than a flat trickle.
Is it tested for banned substances?
Yes, Informed Choice certified — unusual for a pre-workout at this caffeine level, and it contains no exotic stimulants.
Does 25 ingredients mean it is better?
It means broader rather than deeper. Citrulline and beta-alanine are at full clinical doses; most of the other ingredients are present at modest amounts.
Why is the huperzine dose so low?
50mcg is deliberately conservative. Huperzine has a long half-life, so a lower dose is more sensible in a product taken regularly.
Does it contain yohimbine or synephrine?
No — no exotic stimulants at all, which is unusual at 330mg.
Why does it make me tingle?
3.2g of CarnoSyn beta-alanine. Harmless paraesthesia, and not an indicator that the product is working.
Will it affect my sleep?
Potentially longer than you expect. The delayed-release portion extends the tail beyond a comparable dose of plain caffeine.
Rule 1's Pre Lift is by far my favorite to date! I just finished the Orange Pineapple flavor and am ready to try the Sno Cone tomorrow! Bring on the pump!!
